Treponema denticola
Two proteome comparisons are presented here that result from comparing the Treponema denticola proteome to the Treponema pallidum proteome. The first analysis presents genes found in Treponema denticola that are not found in Treponema pallidum. The second analysis presents genes in Treponema denticola that have a homolog in Treponema pallidum. In each analysis the best hit is reported with Treponema pallidum hits excluded from the second analysis.
There is no conspicuous indication that T. denticola proteins nonorthologous to T.pallidum (Analysis 1) have arisen from sources other than the sources for the orthologous proteins (Analysis 2). This is not to say that lateral transfer hasn't occurred in isolated instances. It does suggest that the T.pallidum proteome has resulted primarily from reductive evolution.
