Comment:
Worrad and Caradonna (1993) report that immunohistochemical analysis of infected cells reveals the UL3 protein has a perinuclear location early in infection and at later times becomes associated with the nucleus as discrete particles. They also suggest it is posttranslationally phosphorylated.

Holzerlandt et al.(2002) identify UL3 as a cellular homolog.

In HSV-1 UL3 is dispensable in cell culture, Baines and Roizzman (1991) and has gamma-2 expression regulation, Markovitz et al.(1999).

Blast Summary:  PSI-Blast Search
Residues 1-230 of the UL3 protein are 75% similar using gapped BLAST to residues 1-232 of the UL3 protein in Human herpesvirus 1 (strain 17). UL3 has significant similarilty to Equine herpesvirus 1 & 4 (P28942 & AAC59579)51% (55%) over 211(208) aa, Gallid herpesvirus 2 (AAA61508), Bovine herpesvirus 1.1 (CAA06132), and many other Alphaherpesvirinae. Variants include P28279.
