Comment:
The UL9 protein binds to the origin of DNA synthesis in sequence specific fashion and carries out helicase and ATPase activities.

UL9 contains a tandem nucleotide repeat at genome coordinates 22419-22444 bp, with period/unit size 12, copy # 2.2, 100% matches and no insert/deletes.

The HSV-2 complete genome sequence was updated in Genbank Dec. 12, 1999, affecting 7 nt (4 aa) in UL9, located at genome coordinates 22739-22748 (UL9 coordinates 571-580).

In HSV-1 it is essential for growth in cell culture and has beta expression regulation (Roizman, PNAS 93:11307-12,1996, Medline: 97030190).
