Comment:
The UL16 gene is entirely coded within the intron of the UL15 gene and it's proposed start codon is CTG. UL16 belongs to a family that includes HSV-1 UL16, HSV-6 ORF11R, EHV-1 46, HCMV UL94, EBV BGLF2, HSV 33, and VZV 44.

In HSV-1 UL16 is dispensable in cell culture and has gamma expression regulation (Roizman, PNAS 93:11307,1996, Medline: 97030190).
