Comment:
Rajcani and Kudelova (1999) report that glycoprotein gK has an essential role in virion egress, acting along with glycoprotein gH and the UL20 protein.

Ward et al. (1994) report results consistent with the hypothesis that UL20 is a component of virion envelopes and membranes of virion transport vesicles and is selectively retained from the latter in a Golgi compartment of HHV1 infected cells.

In HSV-1 UL20 is dispensable in cell culture and has gamma expression regulation (Roizman, PNAS 93:11307,1996, Medline: 97030190).

Blast Summary:  PSI-Blast Search
Residues 1-222 of the UL20 protein are 82% similar to residues 1-222 of the UL20 protein in Human herpesvirus 1 (strain 17) and 33% (32%) simmilar over 127 aa to Equine herpesvirus 1 (4) (gene 41) and weakly similar to membrane proteins in other Alphaherpesvirinae.
