The Herpesvirus Database, formerly found on the STDGEN Web site, is available through ORALGEN. Also, certain Bacteroides-related bacterial genomes such as B. fragilis, B. thetaiotaomicron and C. hutchinsonii are studied for their orthologous relationships to the bacterial genomes above. Specifically we are incorporating non-oral pathogen sequences into "toti" databases that identify generic similarities: hence under construction are a toti-1 database for the Bacteroides-related sequences and a toti-2 database for the Strep-related sequences.

We are beginning a series of sequence reviews, or "mini-monographs", pertaining to oral microbes, in the vein of what has been done with the HIV and papillomavirus databases at Los Alamos. Two are now complete and available:

With the newly released Streptococcus sanguinis genome, we introduce an additional dimension of reporting a Definition based upon phylogenetically constrained analyses. This becomes the first step toward a new Oralgen database schema which will provide users with extensive phylogenetically-oriented information. Two such databases are now emerging, one concerned with streptococcal species, the other revolving around Porphyromonas, Prevotella, Cytophagai. Additionally, we will offer to researchers annotated genomes for pathogenic streps other than those specifically of interest to the oral pathogen research community.

J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) released the complete genomes of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia and Treponema denticola prior to publication to ensure that scientific colleagues have access to information that may assist them in the search for genes and their biological function. Data or information may contain errors or be incomplete and should still be regarded as preliminary. JCVI asks that you acknowledge the source of information obtained from this site in any publication by including the following sentence in both the Materials and Methods and Acknowledgement sections: "Sequence data was obtained from J. Craig Venter Institute website at http://www.jcvi.org/." A similar condition must apply to the A.actinomycetemcomitans sequence generously made available in advance of publication by the University of Oklahoma (David-Dyer@ouhsc.edu). Drs.
